Early Intervention Program

We recognized that MSD injuries were not just the most frequent but also the costliest issue affecting our team. To address this challenge head-on, we've partnered with CIS On-Site to pioneer an early intervention program. This initiative features a dedicated early intervention specialist who promptly addresses any signs or symptoms of Musculoskeletal Disorders among our employees. Through proactive measures, such as developing tailored prevention techniques and offering comprehensive education on proper work techniques, body mechanics, and posture, we aim to mitigate risks before they escalate. Additionally, our specialist recommends adjustments to work cells or techniques and provides ergonomic recommendations, ensuring a safer and healthier work environment for all.

MSD Pledge Member

In June 2022, NSC launched the groundbreaking MSD Pledge, sparking a global movement among employers to create safer workplaces and reduce Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) risks and injuries by 25% by 2025. Over 200 organizations across every major continent, representing more than 2.8 million employees, have embraced this initiative. Their commitment aims not only to reduce MSDs but also to prioritize the overall well-being of workers and mitigate costs related to workers' compensation, disability, and absenteeism. However, this milestone marks just the beginning of our journey. Enter the MSD Pledge 2.0—an evolution of this industry-first call-to-action. This updated initiative invites all safety-focused organizations, including STP, who signed the pledge, to collaborate with NSC and industry experts. Together, we aim to leverage their insights to provide resources and innovative solutions that effectively address workplace hazards and promote ongoing improvement in workplace safety beyond 2025.

This initiative not only underscores our commitment to employee health and safety but also positions us at the forefront of innovation in addressing workplace hazards. Through this collaboration, STP is poised to implement targeted solutions that will enhance workplace ergonomics and ensure a safer, more sustainable work environment for all.

Safety Pledge

In 2022, STP's leadership team set a pivotal precedent with our inaugural safety pledge, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to our valued employee-owners. This pledge revolves around empowering our workforce to take the reins in safety leadership, actively engaging them in solving safety hazards, fostering an environment of open feedback, and celebrating milestones of success. We're dedicated to continuously enhancing workplace safety through a systematic approach that identifies and eliminates hazards, ensuring our operations remain secure and efficient. Our leaders are visible advocates for safety, conducting regular safety walks, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and eagerly gathering suggestions from our team. Beyond our walls, we proudly lead by example in the industry, sharing our profound commitment to safety and health with our stakeholders. Most importantly, we listen attentively to our employees, valuing their insights and promptly addressing any safety concerns raised. At STP, this pledge isn't just a promise—it's our pledge to prioritize the well-being and safety of everyone who walks through our doors

Month Safety Compliance Audits

Safety isn't just a promise; it's a proactive commitment upheld through monthly safety audits conducted by our leadership team. These audits serve as a vital checkpoint, ensuring that we not only meet but exceed our safety standards. We meticulously evaluate the effectiveness of our programs, checking that LOTO procedures are prominently displayed, chemicals are properly labeled, and SDS sheets are readily available for all substances on-site. Equally critical is ensuring our operators are well-versed in Job Safety Analysis and Hazard Assessments and are equipped with the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Beyond compliance, these audits provide our leaders with a valuable opportunity to connect directly with our workforce on the floor, engaging in meaningful conversations about the safety of their work environments. At STP, these efforts underscore our unwavering dedication to maintaining a safe and supportive workplace for every member of our team

Worker Participation

At STP, we understand that our employees possess invaluable insights into the potential hazards of their jobs. They are not just workers; they are our most valuable asset. Their knowledge and active participation are central to the success of our comprehensive safety program. We prioritize involving our team in every step, from designing and refining safety protocols to reporting incidents and near misses for thorough investigation. Our employees play a critical role in analyzing both routine and non-routine tasks for potential risks, defining safe work practices, and conducting site inspections and incident investigations. Moreover, they take the lead in training their peers and newcomers alike, ensuring everyone is equipped with the skills and awareness needed for a safe workplace. At STP, we empower our workforce to contribute actively to our safety culture, fostering an environment where their voices are heard, and their contributions make a real difference in ensuring a secure and supportive workplace for all. Join us in creating a safer, more fulfilling workplace experience through active worker participation in safety initiatives.

  • Early Incident Reporting

We prioritize early incident reporting as a cornerstone of our commitment to employee safety and well-being. We firmly believe that swift reporting of incidents and potential injuries gives us the best chance to intervene and address issues before they escalate. All our employees are empowered and encouraged to report any incident or soreness immediately, fostering a proactive safety culture that has proven instrumental in safeguarding our team. By promptly reporting near misses, unsafe conditions, and unsafe acts, we can swiftly investigate and implement necessary controls using the hierarchy of controls framework. This approach not only mitigates immediate hazards but also significantly reduces the risk of more serious injuries. At STP, our proactive stance on early reporting is integral to creating a workplace where safety is paramount and where every employee-owner can work confidently and securely.
  • 2 Second Lean Program and Anonymous Safety Suggestion Box

We deeply value worker participation as essential to the success of our safety initiatives. To encourage and empower our team to contribute their insights and ideas, we've implemented two impactful programs. Our 2 Second Lean program provides a streamlined platform where employees can submit safety suggestions electronically. Whether they need assistance with implementing a solution or have successfully implemented one themselves, this tool ensures their voices are heard and their contributions recognized. Additionally, we understand the importance of anonymity in fostering open communication, which is why we maintain two anonymous safety suggestion boxes. These boxes provide a confidential avenue for all workers to share their ideas and concerns, ensuring that every member of our team feels valued and empowered to contribute to our collective safety culture. By embracing these programs, STP continues to foster an environment where innovation and collaboration thrive, driving continuous improvement in workplace safety for everyone.
  • Job Safety Analysis

We prioritize the safety of our team through meticulous Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for every task. These analyses are crucial in helping our employees understand the risks associated with their work and how best to mitigate them. Each task undergoes a thorough assessment to identify potential hazards, which are then addressed through a variety of control measures such as elimination, substitution, engineering controls, process adjustments, or the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). It's not just about identifying risks; we ensure that every operator reviews and signs off on the JSA, underscoring their commitment to safety. These analyses are prominently displayed in work cells for easy reference, ensuring that safety protocols are readily accessible and followed at all times. At STP, our proactive approach to JSA empowers our team to work confidently and securely, knowing that their safety is our top priority.
  • Annual Safety Training

Safety isn't just a box to check—it's a continuous commitment that goes beyond regulatory requirements. While we diligently provide annual OSHA-mandated training, we elevate our standards by offering additional comprehensive safety training opportunities throughout the year. One highlight is our annual participation in Safe + Sound Week every August, where we engage our employees in hands-on fire extinguisher training. This interactive session empowers our team with the skills and confidence to effectively respond in emergency situations. Beyond fire safety, we conduct trainings focused on hazard identification, emphasizing the importance of near misses, and other specialized topics relevant to our industry. These initiatives not only enhance our safety protocols but also cultivate a proactive safety culture where every employee plays an active role in maintaining a secure workplace environment. At STP, investing in ongoing safety education ensures that our team is well-prepared and empowered to handle any challenges that may arise, reinforcing our commitment to their well-being and success.
  • Participation in OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week

At STP, we eagerly anticipate OSHA's Safe + Sound Week each year, a dedicated time to celebrate and strengthen our commitment to workplace safety. Inspired by OSHA's pillars of a robust safety program—management leadership, worker participation, and proactive hazard identification and resolution—we have structured our own safety initiatives accordingly. This week isn't just about compliance; it's an opportunity to engage our entire team in promoting safety, fostering a positive workplace culture, and having a bit of fun while reinforcing the importance of safety practices. Our ultimate goal is simple yet profound: to ensure every one of our employee-owners returns home safe and sound. Through collaborative efforts and continuous improvement, we're dedicated to achieving this goal and creating a workplace where safety is embedded in everything we do. At STP, Safe + Sound Week is more than an event; it's a reaffirmation of our commitment to the well-being of our team and the cornerstone of our safety culture.

Find and Fix Hazards

We prioritize a proactive stance on workplace safety by actively seeking out and addressing potential hazards before they pose a threat to our team's well-being. We firmly believe that waiting for an incident to occur is not an option when it comes to ensuring a safe workplace. By intentionally identifying and promptly resolving hazards through a systematic approach, we maintain a vigilant stance against risks that could lead to injury or illness. This proactive mindset not only safeguards our employees but also fosters a culture where safety is ingrained in our daily operations. At STP, our commitment to finding and fixing hazards ensures that we create a workplace environment where every member of our team can work confidently and securely, knowing their safety is our top priority. Join us in creating a safer, more fulfilling workplace experience by actively finding and fixing hazards.

  • 3MotionAI Flashlight Technology

Our commitment to workplace safety drives us to innovate and collaborate at every opportunity. Through a partnership with 3motionAI, made possible by the NSC's MSD Solutions Lab Pilot grant program, we are pioneering the use of flashlight technology to analyze work cells and employee movements. This proactive approach enables us to identify potential Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) risks swiftly and accurately. By understanding these risks early on, we can implement targeted solutions that enhance ergonomics and promote a safer environment for all our team members. This initiative not only exemplifies our dedication to proactive hazard mitigation but also underscores our commitment to continually improving workplace safety. Together with 3motionAI, we are shaping a future where safety innovation leads to healthier, more secure workspaces for everyone at STP.
  • Gemba Walks

We embrace the powerful concept of the Gemba walk as a cornerstone in fostering a culture of safety excellence. Our safety-focused Gemba walks involve leaders and managers actively visiting our workspaces to observe safety practices firsthand, identify potential hazards, and engage directly with our employees about safety concerns and best practices. This approach allows us to gain invaluable insights into the real-life conditions in which our team operates, ensuring that safety protocols are rigorously followed and identifying areas for continual improvement to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Daily Review of Safety Incidents

Our commitment to safety extends beyond just reacting to incidents—we proactively review safety incidents daily with our leadership team. This ensures that every department is aware of potential risks and can collectively learn from each situation, even if it didn't directly impact them. These daily reviews not only foster a culture of continuous improvement but also serve as a vital tool for refining our safety protocols, enhancing training programs, and bolstering awareness among our team. By prioritizing these daily reviews, we demonstrate our unwavering dedication to the well-being of our workforce, striving to create a workplace where safety is ingrained in every action and where everyone can work confidently in a secure environment.
  • Electronic Reporting System

We leverage an advanced electronic reporting system for safety incidents that not only enhances our response but also fosters a proactive safety culture. When an incident is logged, our system immediately alerts the leadership team via email, ensuring swift investigation and knowledge sharing across departments. The data collected through this system is invaluable; it enables us to analyze incident trends, pinpoint hotspots, and identify recurring themes. Armed with this data-driven insight, we can strategically devise and implement targeted interventions to address underlying concerns and enhance overall safety measures. By harnessing technology in this way, STP demonstrates a steadfast commitment to continuous improvement and the well-being of our workforce, ensuring a safer and more secure workplace for everyone involved.
